Lagos residents have commended the State Government for the "Ounje Eko" initiative to cushion the effects of the economic hardship. The discounted Sunday food markets opened across the five divisions today.
In a Statement by the State Ministry of Agriculture, Food items, including rice, garri, beans eggs and pepper, were sold at 25% discount to excited residents who trooped out to participate in the scheme.
Commissioner for Agriculture Bisola Olusanya led the ministry’s officials to some of the locations.
Members of the Special Advisory Committee appointed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu were also at some locations to monitor the process.
Residents praised the Government for the good initiative, which they said would go a long way in alleviating some of their economic challenges.
They applauded the orderliness at the markets . Payment and goods collection were smooth. Security was tight, with the Police, Neighborhood Watch, RRS and others at the markets.
Although, there were a few hiccups in some locations,which ran out of foodstuff due to the mammoth crowd, these were promptly corrected as more supplies came in to meet the demands of residents.
Today’s process is a test run of the " Ounje Eko" initiative.
The Ministry of Agriculture has, therefore, called on the cooperation of residents to make the " Ounje Eko" initiative a success going forward.
