Lagos State Government Seals Shops on Martins Street for Safety Violations

The Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed two lock-up shops on Martins Street, off Broad Street, due to safety violations.

Director-General of the Commission, Lanre Mojola, stated that the two lock-up shops were sealed following a petition from a concerned member of the public alleging that a transformer was located directly in front of the two shops at No.148, Broad Street, Marina, Lagos, violating safety rules and regulations.

According to him, the Commission has a mandate to ensure the safety of lives and property in Lagos State and preliminary investigations revealed that a transformer was installed directly in front of the two shops.

Mojola informed that the barricade on the transformer is touching the wall of the building, coupled with a gas generator situated close to the transformer, which poses a high risk and unsafe act to the people and the environment, as this may lead to another fire outbreak.

He implores members of the public to support the government’s zero-tolerance policy against violations of safety rules and regulations.

The Safety Commission boss also emphasized that safety is a collective responsibility and urged members of the public to report unsafe practices or infractions to 0700SAFETY.
