Nigeria's Chess champion, Tunde Onakoya has beaten the 56-hour mark World Guiness record set earlier by two Norwegians Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad on November 11, 2018.
He achieved the feat today (Saturday) at the Times Square, New York, United States, after playing for 58 hours without losing a single game.
Onakoya, who is also a child education advocate, set the new record for the longest chess marathon to empower illiterate children across Africa through the feat.
He embarked on the attempt on April 17 with the ultimate goal to raise the sum of $1,000,000.
Onakoya said the money will be used to “transform the lives of undeserved children across Africa”.
“With the ultimate goal of fundraising $1,000,000 to advance the education of these deserving individuals, every contribution, whether big or small, brings us closer to realizing this noble vision.
