Nigeria Girl Guides Association Decorates NAWOJ Chairperson, Lagos Chapter as Matron.



The Nigeria Girl Guides Association has decorated the Chairperson Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, Dr. Adeola Ekine as Matron. 

The ceremony took place on Wednesday, 31st July, 2024 at Ladi Lawal Press Centre, Iyalla, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos marking a significant milestone in the association's history.

Dr. Adeola Ekine’s investiture is a testament to her dedication to the empowerment and development of women and girls in Nigeria. 

As a renowned journalist and leader, her contributions to promoting gender equality, education, and the welfare of women and female Journalists in Lagos State have been exemplary. 

In her Welcome Address, the Commissioner for Nigerian Girl Guides Association in the State, Mrs. Modupe Akingbesote welcome Dr. Ekine as a Matron of the Association, recognizing her as a role model and advocate for young girls across the nation.

Also decorated as matrons were Wife of the Lagos State Commissioner for Education and Basic Studies, Mrs.Alli-Balogun, Executive Secretary, Executive Secretary lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board, LASTVEB, Mrs.Ronke Azeez, among others.

Lagos State Commissioner for Education and Basic Studies, Jamiu Alli-Balogun was also recognised.

In her acceptance speech, Dr. Ekine expressed her gratitude for the honour and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the Girl Guides' mission of fostering leadership, community service, and personal development among young girls.

She added that NAWOJ's primary role is advocating for the rights of the girl child while  guiding and mentoring members of the Girl Guides Association will be an additional responsibility and duty.

The event was attended by dignitaries, members of the Girl Guides Association, representatives from NUJ and NAWOJ, and various stakeholders from the media and civil society.
