COMRADE AL HASSAN YAHAYA EMERGES NUJ NATIONAL PRESIDENT


The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ has elected Comrade Alhasan Yahaya as its new national President.

Yahya polled a total of 436 votes to defeat his opponents, Comrades Bamidele Atunbi who garnered 97 votes and Garba Mohammed who got 39 votes at the 8th Triennial Delegates Conference and election of the union held in Owerri, Imo State.

Comrade Yahaya who hails from Gombe State was the former Deputy National President of NUJ.

The Union now has the first female Deputy National President, Comrade Abimbola Oyetunde, General Manager, Radio Nigeria, Bronze FM, Edo State and former BoT member of the union, elected unopposed.

Other National Officers of the union elected include, the National Treasurer, Comrade Victor Ndukwe, who was the former Abia State Council Chairman, while Ronke Samo was reelected the Vice President of B-Zone (Southwest).
The conference brought over 620 delegates from the 36 State Councils across the Country.

Earlier, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, who played host to the union, urged the media to always fact-check information to curb the circulation of fake news.
