Lagos Adopts New Intelligent Transportation System Technology to Enforce Speed Limits, Other Traffic Regulations


To ensure safer, efficient, smarter and law abiding city, the Lagos State Government has introduced four additional Intelligent Transportation System, ITS, sites across key locations in the state, to enforce speed limits and other traffic violations with immediate effect.

The locations are Alapere- Ogudu, Nitel-Mobolaji Bank Anthony for excessive speeding violations while Allen -Junction
and Nurudeen Olowopopo are sited for traffic violations, including, red light violation, reverse driving on the highway, lane indiscipline, illegal U-turn and One way driving.

Speaking at Press Conference on Thursday, in conjunction with the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi noted that the initiative is not designed as a punitive measure for motorists, but to ensure voluntary compliance for enhanced traffic management system and safety.


Osiyemi who noted that the ITS integrates advanced information, communication, sensing, control, and computer technologies into  transportation management framework, urged Motorists to always look out for road signs.

On his part, Commissioner for Innovation Science and Technology, Tunbosun Alake said the initiative by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration for the citizens of Lagos under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Developmental Agenda is to ensure a livable and technological advanced city to manage issues around traffic, drive positive transportation outcomes and enhance economic growth.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa noted that the essence is to ensure safety and security on the roads and not for revenue generation, noting that anyone caught violating the laws and regulations will be fined.

The Intelligent Transportation System, 
 allows for real-time monitoring and management of traffic conditions, enabling precise, efficient, and comprehensive control of transportation activities.
