Mrs.Sanwo-Olu Kicks Off Lagos Boy Child 4-day Residential Workshop

The Lagos Boy Child Initiative has commenced its 4-day residential workshop themed “Re-orientating the Boy Child to Become an Ambassador of Societal Change at St.Gregory’s College.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady of Lagos State, Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, said the initiative was created to provide boys with the right guidance, exposure and support needed to grow into responsible and confident members of society.

She explained that this year’s workshop began with an educational tour to key security formations, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force and the Department of State Services. According to her, the visits were designed to broaden participants’ perspectives on discipline, service and career opportunities in nation-building.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need to give the boy child adequate attention, noting that while advocacy for the girl child remains important, boys must not be left behind. She added that the workshop will address critical issues such as cybercrime, peer pressure, substance abuse and emotional well-being.

Participants, selected from public and private schools as well as correctional centres across the state, will engage in sessions on leadership, personal development, self-discipline, career guidance and positive social behaviour, alongside sporting and team-building activities.

In her welcome address, wife of the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, described the programme as a strategic effort to nurture future leaders. She urged the boys to embrace discipline, responsibility and resilience as foundations for success.

The Lagos Boy Child Initiative continues to reinforce efforts aimed at raising morally upright and socially responsible young men in the state.
